Sign up for the Winter season
Welcome to the sign up section of Crunch. Here you can read about the different teams and the Thursday Winter Outdoor which you can join for the upcoming Winter season 2008-2009. Below will follow a description of each team and the goals they have set themselves. If you already know which team you want to join or you want to join the Winter Outdoor, you can go straight to the sign up form. Be aware that joining a team for practice, signing up for Winter Outdoor and/or playing competition has costs associated with it.
There are eight teams you can join: Bovine, Crunch1/2, Oddjob, het Collectief, Cakes Indoor, Crunching Tigers, CamboCakes and SpongeBabes. More info on these teams can be found in the Team section of our website or by clicking on the team name below. These teams will all participate in the Dutch indoor competition, except Crunching Tigers, CamboCakes and SpongeBabes. The indoor competition days are always on Sunday and held across the Netherlands on the following days: 16th of November, 14th of December, 18th of January, and 15th of February. There is no winter outdoor competition. The Outdoor competition will start again in March 2009.
This year's Monday Winter Outdoor will actually be Thursday Winter Outdoor and is for all you hard-core Outdoor enthousiasts. Crunching Tigers will train together with the Thursday Winter Outdoor. The Thursday Winter Outdoor is at Sportpark Drieburg from 19.00 - 21.30.
Student Frisbee: if you are a student, please check out www.ultimatenuts.nl.
All applications will be collected after the 10th of October and the Coordinator New Members/Training will meet with the core group representatives to assign every applicant to a team. The teams have the final say-so whether someone is allowed to join, but the coordinator will try his utmost to find everybody a place in a team according to his/her wishes. Be aware that you may not end up in the team of your first choice.
Now without further ado, here are the options:
Thursday Winter Outdoor
For all you beginning and veteran players alike who want to be hardcore and play outdoor during Winter but don't want to commit to a team. These evenings will focus on some drills to hone your skills followed by a game to put those sweet moves into practice. Everybody is welcome!
Practice: Thursday 19.00 - 21.30 h, Sportpark Drieburg
Bovine
Een jong team dat in de hoogste divisies wil spelen! - Ralph says: "When I grow up, I’m Going to Bovine University."
Core group: Reggi Hensen
Practice: Rotation schedule every three weeks: two weeks on Tuesday and one on Wednesday
Tuesday 20.30 - 22.00, Van Hogendorphal or Wednesday 21.30 - 23.00, Van Hogendorphal.
Crunch1/2
Like last year we aim to play top half second division, but always looking for more.
Practice is playing, no drills; we feel that playing indoor is all about connecting in the field, which you only get from playing together. So hard and focused ultimate, resulting in fun competition days.
We can use players: a.) with indoor experience, and
b.) who are able to throw and catch knives and hammers, ´cause that´s the game we play.
Core group: Raymond van Dijk, Stefan van Langeveld, Ilse Giesbers, Erwin van Langeveld
Practice: Rotation schedule every three weeks: two weeks on Tuesday and one on Wednesday
Tuesday 20.30 - 22.00, Van Hogendorphal or Wednesday21.30 - 23.00, Van Hogendorphal.
Oddjob
"Oddjob acts as Goldfinger's personal chauffeur, bodyguard and golf caddy in the James Bond film Goldfinger. He is extremely strong and durable, demonstrating his strength in a number of scenes. He is an expert at unarmed combat. He wears what appears to be a flat-topped top hat lined with a metal razor disk in the rim, using it as a lethal flying disc of sorts. Plus, he's sort of weird."
Oddjob is a solid team with more or less the same players for the last two years. We try to play as well and as spirited as possible. We play in the NFB Competition on not the highest level. ;-) Participation rate in trainings is high and we do not forget to have diner together now and then. For the upcoming winter season we will play in the NFB Indoor Competition.
Core group: Christiaan, Anna, Hanneke, Ellen, Mattijs, Christian, Phillip, Feike, Kalle
Practice: Wednesday 19.00 - 21.00, Pijphal.
Het Collectief
A joint cooperation between players from different teams with crazy plans to go Indoor. Wanna learn what Indoor's all about, join het Collectief. Everybody is welcome!
Practice: Wednesday 19.00 - 21.00, Pijphal.
Cakes Indoor
Lucas was mad enough to try to get several CamboCake players (Crunch's high level tournament team) to join the indoor competition, and he seems to have succeeded! This team is for players on the CamboCakes that are interested in playing indoor -- but if you are looking for high level first division indoor ultimate action, why not let us know of your interest?
Core group: Lucas Meijer.
Practice: Wednesday 21.30 - 23.00, Van Hogendorphal.
Crunching Tigers
'It's the eye of the tiger
its the cream of the fight
risin up to the challenge of our rivals
and the last known survivor stalks his prey in the night
and he's watching us all with the eye of the tiger'
(Or simply: 'Ta tatata tatata taaaaaaaa! Ta tatata tatata tatatiiiiiiiigers!' )
Besides wearing as much tiger stripes as possible, our aim basically is to master this game called ultimate frisbee. Most of us are new to the game, with experience ranging from nill to a year tops (not counting those aimless bikini sessions on the beach, or eating breakfast from your frisbee on early morning camp sites). This year we aim to learn lots, and grow as a team, invite new members to our ranks, and just have fun.
Core group: Paul de Moel, Francisca Grommé
Practice: Thursday 19.00 - 21.30 h (together with Thursday Outdoor), Sportpark Drieburg
CamboCakes
For those of you who want to become a high-level player fast and are happy to train hard to get there, the CamboCake trainings are for you. The CamboCakes is a Crunch team that focuses on high-level tournaments. Our winter/pre-spring training is outdoors on Thursday nights. Our focus is on developing players' skills, tactics and physical condition within a fun and spirited team. Then we take that team to some competitive tournaments to further develop and hopefully reach our potential against some of Europe's best teams. Our tournament schedule kicks off in late April, then we average about one tournament per month. We don't care what your current frisbee experience or level - if you have the desire to play at the highest level in the Netherlands, then you are very welcome. You will receive expert coaching in a fun team atmosphere. We ask that you:
1: Commit to practices - we practice no matter the weather.
2: Commit to increasing your fitness - our practices are physically demanding, and we expect everyone to put 100% in from start to finish.
The Cakes ask 4 hours per week from our players, which includes Thursaday night trainings during winter, and making sure you get fit. Gym, track sessions, whatever you as an individual need to be in good shape.
We train hard, play hard and then finish with a pizza and a beer after practice.
Core group: Andrew Vincent, Laurenz Eveleens, Michael Cummings, Fred Spanjaard, Tom Waijers.
Practice: Thursday (from november until Spring with a long christmas break) 19.00 - 21.30 h, Sportpark Drieburg
SpongeBabes
SpongeBabes are back for another winter outdoor season. We are the one and only women's team of Amsterdam. A team in the make. Last winter season had some tough low-number practices. But more and more ladies are interested, which means we'll keep the engine running. What to expect if you join:
a fun bunch of girls who are so diehard they commit to training in the cold and rain some more low-number practices garanteed every practice however is a learning experience; we aim to have a good practice regardless of the number of players fun and teambonding is important to us sponge pride
Practice: Thursday 19.00 - 21.30 h, Sportpark Drieburg
