What is a backup player?
It's the term we use for those players who, for one reason or another, are not in a competition team, but should be considered first when the team they normally practice with needs extra players for a competition day. For more info on the rules set by the NFB regarding such a bring-along, read 'What is a guest player?'.

What is a guest player?
This info from Werkgroep Ultimate (Flow of October 2002). If one of our teams wants to bring along a bring-along (someone who is not on the official player list that Crunch sent to the Dutch Frisbee Association (NFB)):

  • get permission from Werkgroep Ultimate (WU) BEFOREHAND.
  • MUST be an emergency (wanting a 10th player doesn't count).
  • maximum of 2 additions (per day, I think)
  • extra players must be listed on 'Wedstrijdformulier'.
Possible bring-alongs:

  • clubmembers who are not in a competition team, but who ARE members of the NFB, can play on 1 competition day with 1 team. (list as Niet Spelend Bondslid).
(Those are SOME of our Crunch practice members, only those who ARE a member of the NFB.
The first candidates for that are our so-called backup players.
    )
  • a player from a lower team (of the same club) can play on 1 competition day with 1 higher team, provided the teams play in a different division. (list as Speelt voor team X).
  • members from another club who do not play in any team, can play 1 competition day with 1 team. (list as Lid van Vereniging X).
(Looks like this player can never help out any other club or team in the same season.)
  • someone who is NOT a member of the NFB can play 1 competition day with 1 team. (list as Gastspeler).
(This would be someone we find on the street, or one of visiting foreigners.)
This last type is the only type that does not have to be announced to Werkgroep Ultimate beforehand. This player has to pay for this to the NFB, via Crunch.

What happens if a team does not show up at a competition day?
Crunch (Bestuur) feels that it is a very bad thing if team does not show up at a competition day. It's bad for the sport, it's bad for Crunch, it's bad for the team, it's bad for the players.
According to NFB rules:
º If the team does not show up, and does not inform the NFB beforehand, there is a 75 EUR fine.
º If the team does not show up, but does inform the NFB beforehand, there is a 50 EUR fine.
º If the team shows up, but without the required number of players (5 indoor, 7 outdoor), there is no fine.
º In all the above cases, all games are lost 15-0.
The NFB fines the club. The bestuur of Crunch has decided that it is up to the team to figure out who pays the fine: One team member, all team members, the 'guilty' team members, whatever. Sit together, talk about priorities and come up with the money.
It is suggested that a team, at the beginning of the season, make a pact not to let the problem come up, and already decide who should pay if it does occur.

Why are you called Crunch?
1) We are named after a chocolate bar.
2) It's the sound of catching a disc with your mouth.
More info on how Crunch got started in the History file.

Why is this website in English?
Via our website, over the years, a lot of foreign players have found us. Some came for one practice, others have stayed for years. A number of those foreign players have been very good for the progress of the club, and are great friends as well. If the website had not been in English we might have missed out on them. For much the same reason, (part of) the mails on our mailinglist are in English as well. O, and we're too lazy to do it all bi-lingual.
